Captain Fawcett Commemorative 4x4 Track ticked all boxes as an one-day drive from Perth.
Captain Fawcett Memorial Track Map |
Few kilometres down to Nanga road there was a turn off on the left with a post that marks the official start of the track.
The first few kilometres the track is well maintained and could be done in 2WD.
Remains of the old Long Gully Rail bridge.
A nice flat area on side of Murray River. The access is quite steep and 4WD is required to get back on the track.
The scenery was very nice through local woodland (Dwellingup State Forest).
The track at times become quite narrow and overgrown so some paint scratches were imminent.
The 4WD track actually finished at the old timber factory. From there, there is a well graded road for next 5km or so and after that a sealed road all the way up to Quindanning.
The track (albeit sealed) goes under what it is believed to be one of the longest belt conveyors in the world. It carries bauxite for 52 km from its mines to the refinery in Worsley.
Made the last stop in Boddington before heading back to Perth.
